How to wash your Naturally Dyed Silk
With proper care, your naturally dyed silk will retain its luster and beauty for years to come. Follow these simple tips to ensure that your favorite silk garments and accessories stay looking fabulous.
Wash only as needed. Caring for naturally dyed silk requires gentle handling to maintain its delicate texture and vibrant colors. If possible, it is best to hand wash your silk garment in cool water with a mild detergent. Avoid using harsh detergents, fabric softeners, and baking soda/sodium bicarbonate based cleansers as these can damage the fibers and cause the colors to fade. Never use bleach on silk.
If you must machine wash your silk, use a mesh garment bag to protect it from snags and tears. Wash with similar colors on a gentle cycle, using a mild detergent. Do not overload the machine or use hot water, as this can damage the fabric.
Hang or lay flat to dry, out of direct sunlight. If you need to remove wrinkles, iron your silk on a medium heat setting. Never store your silk in direct sunlight.
Will the colors bleed?
In short, no, the colors will not wash out or bleed onto any other textile.
Each Bavlnka Brand piece is pre-treated & washed post dyeing, so that when you go to wash it the colors will not bleed or wash out.
Change is natural: Any textile, whether naturally or synthetically dyed, will have colors shift and fade over time with wear and wash. The more you wash them, the quicker the colors will fade, therefore only wash as necessary, and use proper care guidelines. Sunlight will bleach your textiles, therefore keep your naturally dyed silk out of direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
Proper care of your silk goods will ensure their longevity, and they will last you for decades to come.
